A new home-based grooming salon has recently opened in Bucksburn offering one-on-one pooch pampering.
Mel Sandison has made the move into grooming after running a busy dog walking service from her house. Spurred on after being made redundant two years ago and looking for a dif-fur-ent line of work, Mel has now completed her level 2 City and Guilds dog grooming training and is working towards level 3.
Offering the one-on-one service is important to Mel, she said:
“This is perfect for dogs who might not cope well with a busy salon environment. Ideally, I would want to see a puppy as soon as it gets a new home, the sooner the better, then it will get used to the salon environment.
“That first grooming experience will dictate how they react from then on to being groomed. Most dogs need to be seen every 6-8 weeks.”
“I’m happy for owners to stay with their dog, if they feel more comfortable, especially the first time. Customer service is really important, if they are not happy, they’re not going to want to come back.”
Conveniently offering evening and daytime appointments, Mel also offers a drop-off service within the local area: “To save people having to hang around.”
Prices start at £20 for a wash and blow dry – prices for clipping or hand stripping will be dependent the size of dog and those who may need extra attention.
