North-East entertainer Patrice Wight is going to officially open Dyce Gala Day on 25 June at Dyce Community Centre. The community event is happening – thanks to a social media campaign named “Bring back Dyce Gala” which attracted the attention of Councillor Graeme Lawrence back in 2014.Councillor Lawrence and the Dyce and Stoneywood Community Association voted to go ahead with a Gala this year and are hoping that it will return as an annual event. He said: “I’m really looking forward to the day and am hoping that the community really gets behind the event. We are wanting as many local groups to be involved as possible on the day to make it a success.“There hasn’t been a Gala in Dyce since 2005, mainly due to a lack of willing residents to help with the organisation.”Councillor Lawrence explained: “This year it will be a one day event and we will see how it goes. It used to be a week-long Gala and then just a weekend, but it really died a death as there weren’t enough willing helpers.”
“All local groups are welcome to take part and raise awareness of their organisation and fund-raise for the groups. There will also be commercial stands available to craft groups and local small businesses , who will pay a small fee.”Confirmed groups so far include Dyce Scouts – who will be running a BBQ, the Brownies – who are selling moctails and Dyce Boys Brigade – who have someone doing a piping performance. There will be musical entertainment from the Dyce Primary School choir and a Gospel Choir from Jesus House Dyce.
Dyce Gardening club, Police Scotland, Dyce Rotary Club, the Buchan Crafters, and Martyn Paul Fitness Centre are all attending, along with Angus the Bull, from Aberdeen Football Club.Dyce Gala is on 25 June – 10am-4pm in and around Dyce Community Centre, Gordon Terrace.Anyone wishing to apply for a stall can contact Graeme Lawrence on 07773253010 or by email firstname.lastname@example.org or on their Facebook page Dyce Gala 2016
